The
research vessel REEFS 1 is the official work boat for FAMI. A former military
EOD boat she is 65 feet long with a beam of 17 feet. The covered back deck
provides a work space of 17 X 26 with twin ladders at the stern and fold up dive
platforms on each side. REEFS 1 is powered by twin Detroit 871 natural diesel
engines and has two Onan generators capable of 20 KW electrical service.
There is a small day galley with refrigerator and fresh water sink. The
berthing area has six built in bunks with storage attached and there is
combination room that serves as a dining area or dressing room. The head is
complete with a stand up shower and lavatory.
The scientific area has two work counters and ample 110 outlets for various computers and other equipment. The wheel house accommodates the helm and navigation stations and is equipped with Radar, LORAN, GPS and VHF radio stations. Basic first aid and oxygen delivery systems are on board.
